RCC Jazz Ensembles performing at Mario's.
The RCC Jazz Ensembles have recently experienced remarkable success, including the program growing to 3 student jazz bands meeting during the day and 2 community-based groups in the evening. The Jazz Ensemble was a Downbeat Magazine award winner for a third consecutive year and took first place in the two-year college division at the 2017 Reno Jazz Festival. Jazz Lab #1 finished in third place in Reno, and students receiving outstanding awards were Sebastian Siojo, Luke Bither, Randy Plummer, Diego Fuentes, Elias Rodriguez, LJ Manns, Anthony Duran, Alec Richard, Andrew Valenzuela and Andrew Alvarado. Valenzuela was also named the Outstanding College and University Saxophonist. Valenzuela also was recognized by Downbeat Magazine for his outstanding arrangement of On Green Dolphin St. The faculty would like to thank our District Board of Trustees, the Associated Students, Riverside CIty College and Wolde-Ab Isaac, Ph.D., chancellor, Riverside Community College District, for his support. The faculty also wish to thank the students for their fantastic efforts, their success makes all the work worthwhile.
